The litter run was the reason we started Looking After Leisure Bay. What began as a small team walking the roads of Leisure Bay is now a well oiled cleanup crew that has removed over 50 tons of illegal dumping from Leisure Bays bush.
The main beneficiary’s of the litter run is our wildlife. No longer do the Blue Duiker, the Bushbuck, the snakes and the birds need to live among the filth that was hidden from view. We also have a bakkie that is on loan from a Leisure Bay resident that we fondly refer to as “The tank” and with our our Tank we could not keep Leisure Bay clean. We can confidently state that Leisure Bay is THE cleanest village on the Lower South Coast. All due to Looking After Leisure Bay’s Litter run. It costs a lot to keep paradise clean so please, if you can help us with a donation it will help us in making the Litter Run sustainable in the long term. The litter run has also spread its wings. at the request of locals we moved the cleanup West of the R61 and with the blessings of Chief Bhekisizwe Nsimakwe did a test cleanup in the township. We discovered the main problem was that there was not a single refuse bin anywhere in the area. As a result we are at present only concentrating of keeping the taxi rank and area around the taxi rank litter free. We are hoping that RNM places refuse bins out soon.
